About Dr. Twis
Professional Background
I am a Licensed Master Social Worker - Advanced Practitioner (LMSW-AP) with direct practice, research, teaching, and administrative experience. I have dedicated my career to bridging the gap between academic theory and real-world practice, specifically in the areas of human trafficking, interpersonal violence, and homelessness. Drawing from my experiences as a convert to Judaism and dual citizen of the United States and Israel, my work has recently expanded to address questions related to Jewish identity, contemporary antisemitism, and the ethical obligations of social workers. Over the years, I have collaborated with a variety of individuals and organizations to develop actionable solutions to complex social challenges.
Academic Career
I am an Associate Professor in the Wurzweiler School of Social Work at Yeshiva University. I hold a PhD and an MSSW from The University of Texas at Arlington, and a BSW from Texas State University - San Marcos. My academic background has equipped me with a foundation in both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, enabling me to investigate nuanced questions and contribute meaningful insights to the field of social work.
